How Many Games Would This Team Win?

ImageDuring my commute today, I was listening to Mike and Mike in the Morning and imagined what it would be like if LeBron James signed with Oklahoma City when his contract expires in Miami. Surely, this is a fantasy world, as OKC would be unlikely to find the luxury tax space to secure “The King.” But, imagine for a moment that LeBron took the mid-level exception to play with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook…

PG: Russell Westbrook
SG: Kevin Durant
SF: LeBron James
PF: Serge Ibaka
C: Hasheem Thabeet

If the Thunder fielded this lineup by letting the contracts of Kevin Martin and Kendrick Perkins expire, they would undoubtedly challenge the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ NBA record 72 win total and make for a lot of exciting basketball.

After writing this article, it no longer would surprise me to see this sort of monopolization of talent. After all, we have already seen it in Miami, Boston, and Los Angeles to varying degrees of success.

So, how many wins would OKC secure with a lineup like this?
